Circle Solutions joins the American Public Health Association (APHA) in celebrating National Public Health Week, April 6–12, 2015. It’ a great opportunity to recognize the critical role our public health system plays in improving the quality of life for millions of Americans. This year’s theme is: Healthiest Nation 2030. Let’s Make America the Healthiest Nation in One Generation!
Many Americans, including some of our political leaders, contend that the U.S. has the best health care system in the world. While we have excellent doctors, state-of the-art hospitals, and are leaders in advanced medical procedures and pharmaceutical development, the U.S. trails other countries in life expectancy and other measures of good health—this holds true across all ages and income levels. The APHA points out that even though we have the most expensive health care system in the world, the U.S. falls short of other countries in multiple health measures, including infant mortality rate, injury and homicides, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes, among others.
At Circle, we support the ambitious, but critical, goal of raising America’s health care grade. We continue to work closely with our Federal partners in vital areas, including:
- Children’s health
- Diabetes and kidney disease prevention
- Mental health and depression
We agree with APHA that a strong public health system is crucial to sustaining healthy communities and moving us toward preventing illness, disease, and injury. We champion the cause and join our health partners in promoting improved health outcomes for all Americans.
